Presentation of the attributes of an honorary doctor of the Karazin University to the professor of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) Manfred Thumm
On March 9, in the city of Karlsruhe (Germany), with the participation of the director of the educational and scientific institute "Faculty of Physics and Technology" Igor Girka, a solemn ceremony of awarding the attributes of an honorary doctor of the Karazin University to the professor of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) Manfred Thumm was held.
He is a renowned physicist whose research includes very powerful millimeter-range gyrotron tubes, vacuum dielectric windows, transmission lines, antennas for fusion plasma heating, and microwave processing of industrial materials.
The decision to award him an honorary title was made back in January 2022. At that time, it was assumed that the awarding ceremony would take place during the sixtieth anniversary celebration of the Faculty of Physics and Technology in November 2022. But because of the war, it was decided to hold the ceremony in Karlsruhe.
Karlsruhe Institute of Technology's vice-chancellor for international relations Thomas Hirt, director of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology's Institute for High Power Pulse and Microwave Engineering, Professor Jon Jelonnek, colleagues and family members of Professor Thum and others also took part in the events.
The Consul General of Ukraine in Munich Yuriy Yarmilko sent greetings to the participants of the ceremony.
We welcome Professor Manfred Thumm to the Karazin University family!
