The Yegor Shumaiev Auditorium was opened at the University

15 june 2023 year

Yehor Shumaiev was a student of the School of Geology, Geography, Recreation and Tourism. From the first days of the military aggression, Yehor volunteered to defend Kharkiv in the ranks of the Territorial Defense, and later, in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, he bravely defended Donbas.

According to the hero's mother, Lyudmyla Shumaieva: "He was 19 years old when he made such a difficult decision. I begged him to continue studying. And he said: 'No, mom, it's my duty, I have to defend our homeland, our home'."

After being seriously injured at the end of 2022, doctors and parents fought for his life for several days, but his injuries proved to be incompatible with life.

From now on, room 5-66 of the main building is named after Yehor Shumaiev, the defender of Ukraine.

We honor the memory of all the students, teachers, staff and alumni of Karazin University who gave their lives for the indepedence and freedom of Ukraine. The bitter pain of the loss of heroically or innocently killed Ukrainians will forever remain in our hearts...

On the second floor of the main building, there is a stand with portraits and names of Karazinites who died during the full-scale invasion. Most of them were defending Ukraine as part of the Armed Forces and the Teritorial Defense.

On June 14, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the stand. The event was attended by the rector of the university, vice-rectors, and representatives of the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Education.

Every minute we remember the military who paid the ultimate price for the freedom and independence of the state. Eternal memory to the heroes who keep the sky above Ukraine.

The University remembers!
