Professor Volodymyr Berest Presents Karazin University’s AI-Driven Teaching Approach at Teachers’ Smart Up: Summer Edition 2026
Volodymyr Berest, Head of the Department of Molecular and Medical Biophysics and Professor at V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, represented the University at Teachers’ Smart Up: Summer Edition 2026, an event organized by Sigma Software — one of the leading platforms for discussing modern education and digital tools for educators.

During his presentation, "Teacher + Student + AI: A New Learning Model Instead of Prohibitions and Control," Volodymyr Berest shared practical experience in integrating generative artificial intelligence into the educational process. Rather than trying to prevent students from using AI, the approach focuses on teaching them how to use it as a tool for deeper learning, laboratory preparation, scientific literature analysis, and the development of research skills and academic integrity.
The audience showed particular interest in practical examples of using Gemini Notebook to create interactive learning materials and virtual laboratories.
This work forms part of the development of a new academic course created within the international RECLAIM project, implemented by Karazin University together with partners from TU Bergakademie Freiberg (TUBAF) with the support of the German-Ukrainian University Network (DUHN) programme of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space. We sincerely thank our partners at TUBAFdigital for enabling the implementation of innovative educational approaches and the development of new learning formats.
Kharkiv biophysicists are convinced that artificial intelligence cannot replace a teacher. Instead, it helps free up time for what matters most in education—meaningful interaction, mentorship, and the shared pursuit of new knowledge.
