On September 26, 2025, the Marin Drinov Center for Bulgarian and Balkan Studies held its regular scientific seminar.
This time, the guest of the event was the well-known historian and Bulgarian studies scholar Professor Oleksandr Hanchev, from the State University of Intelligent Technologies and Communication, and Head of the Odesa Scientific Society of Bulgarian Studies.
He delivered a lecture titled “What Photo Albums Keep Silent About: Bulgarians of the Imperial Borderlands at the End of the 19th – Beginning of the 20th Century.”
This scholarly research is also of great interest in the context of source studies, as the author shared his many years of experience working with photographic documents.
Participants learned about the history of photography, various approaches to classifying and studying photographs. The lecturer also presented a photo album containing photographs covering the period from 1865 to 1913, providing detailed commentary and analysis on them.
