Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Oksen Lisovyi, visited the Research Institute of Astronomy at Karazin University
On November 20, as part of a working visit by Oksen Lisovyi in honor of World Science Day for Peace and Development, an inspection of energy-saving equipment was conducted at the Research Institute of Astronomy. During the visit, the Minister took a brief tour of the institute and learned about the scientific developments of the School of Computer Physics and Energy.
The Director of the School, Iryna Haryachevska, and representatives of the institute showcased highly relevant cases on energy conservation, green energy, and smart consumption. They presented a project for an energy management system in a smart home and an innovative idea for a hydrogen storage battery.
In a conversation with the Director of the Research Institute of Astronomy, Vadym Kaidash, they discussed the projects organized by Karazin University scientists, the discoveries made, and the contributions of Kharkiv astronomers to global science. Oksen Lisovyi emphasized that there are currently numerous opportunities for scientists, as many grants are available, and partners are ready to invest in the development of Ukrainian science.
They also addressed a pressing issue frequently faced by Ukrainian astronomers: the lack of research equipment recognized by international scientific institutions. Vadym Kaidash noted that data collected with uncertified instruments is considered irrelevant, casting doubt on all the calculations made by scientists. Therefore, acquiring modern equipment through grants and projects would greatly benefit Karazin researchers, Kharkiv, and the whole of Ukraine, allowing them to leave their mark beyond Earth.
The visit concluded with a tour of the Astronomy Museum. Vadym Kaidash showcased the oldest instruments in the collection and highlighted Karazin University's achievements in astronomy, including the discovery of new clouds on Mars in collaboration with foreign scientists.
Additionally, ahead of the Minister's visit, representatives from various higher education institutions across Ukraine visited the Research Institute of Astronomy to gain deeper insights into Karazin University's research in the field of astronomy.
