Karazinite became the only winner in Ukraine to receive a prestigious international student award
Artem Hrinchenko, a 5th year student of the Institute of Computer Physics and Energy, won the SPIE Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship from the international community of optics and photonics SPIE. In total, 72 winners from around the world were selected this year. However, only Karazin received this award among Ukrainians.
His scientific work is devoted to the optical engineering of a certain class of two-dimensional periodic nanostructures - plasmonic hyperbolic metasurfaces. The developed model enables to find the required nanostructure design quickly for various applications. In particular, it helped to explain the results of a recent experiment published in the IEEE Microwave and Wireless Technology Letters journal.
"I hope that these results will be an important step towards technological development and promotion of optics and photonics in our society. I would like to thank SPIE for the motivation and comprehensive support of students and young researchers in Ukraine," Artem says.
Karazin University has a student chapter of the international optics and photonics communities Optica and SPIE Karazin Photonics. We invite undergraduate and graduate students to join.

For reference. The international society SPIE (Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers) was founded in 1955 and brings together students, scientists, engineers and industrialists in the field of optics and photonics. Today, the society has more than 30,000 members worldwide.
