7 september 2023 year

The main university building always attracts the attention of Kharkiv residents and guests of our city. For a long time, it was the tallest secular building in Kharkiv. Built in 1929-1932 in Kharkiv which was the capital of Ukraine then. It gained recognition under the name "House of Projects."

This Constructivist skyscraper from the first third of the 20th century suffered heavily during World War II and in 1950 was handed over to the university. Its restoration took thirteen years. On September 7, 1963, the main building was ceremoniously opened. The university received 61,000 square meters of space.

The architects of the building were Sergei Serafimov and Maria Zandberg-Serafimova. The reconstruction was carried out by university staff and students under the guidance of architects and designers such as Veniamin Kostenko, Alexander Kasyanov, Vladimir Lipkin, and others.

The main university building is a monument of local historical, cultural, and architectural significance. It is associated with the work of outstanding scientists of the 20th and 21st centuries, including astronomer Mykola Barabashov, mathematician Oleksiy Pogorelov, physicist Ilya Lifshitz, psychologist Petro Zinchenko, sociologist Olena Yakubi, archaeologist Boris Shramko, and many others.

Karazin University's main building is the pride of the city, domestic science, and education. This year, it welcomed thousands of new applicants, master's students, and doctoral candidates. The traditions of Karazin University are carried on by new generations.

Throughout the ages, the university has inspired artists and writers. Professor of Karazin University and poet Alexander Yurchenko dedicated the following verses to his alma mater:

University, my youthful treasure, so dear,

In songs of youth, your essence’s so clear.

University, my love ever bright,

You shine like a star in my academic night.

Into life's vast sea, we students set sail,

The flagship of higher learning, we hail.

Vivat Academy! In reverence we stand,

Vivat professors! Your guidance's so grand.

Our Alma Mater, long may you thrive,

In your embrace, our aspirations come alive.
