Director of the Institute of Physics and Technology, Pylyp Kuznetsov, participated in a meeting of the High Scientific Council of the European Nuclear Society
On November 5–6, 2024, Philip Kuznetsov, Director of the Education and Research Institute "School of Physics and Technology" of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University and member of the NGO "Ukrainian Nuclear Society," participated in the meeting of the High Scientific Council of the European Nuclear Society.
During the first part of the meeting, council members heard presentations from five finalists of the "HSC PhD Award 2024." The research topics included:
- Methods for analyzing the safety and resilience of nuclear systems;
- Development of software for reactor physics;
- Development of methods for characterizing radioactive waste;
- Development of non-destructive testing methods for monitoring pressure in nuclear material containment structures.
The winner of the competition was Chiara Faravetto from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich for her work, "Development of Terbium Radioisotopes for Clinical Theranostics in Nuclear Medicine."
Additionally, the meeting covered position papers on the long-term operation of nuclear power plants, extending their operational lifespans, and advancements in nuclear medicine. In particular, discussions highlighted the potential of radiopharmaceuticals, along with the current challenges and limitations in their development and application.
