Representatives from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine visited Karazin Universit
On August 4, the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Oksen Lisovyi, and Deputy Ministers of Education and Science, Mykhailo Vynnytskyi and Andrii Stashkiv visited Kharkiv within the framework of a working tour. The agenda included visiting educational institutions of the city and the region.
The first visit was to Kharkiv National University, also known as Karazin University. During the visit, the officials from the Ministry of Education and Science, together with Oleg Synehubov, the head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, the university's rector, Tetiana Kaganovska, and the university's vice-rectors, discussed current and prospective matters related to education and science development at the university.
Karazin University showcased an exhibition of its startups and scientific developments.
Among the exhibited projects were important initiatives, including one related to the verification of radiation safety for the placement and operation of the largest in the world dry storage facility for spent nuclear fuel at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
One of the most relevant startups presented by Karazin University involved the restoration of agricultural lands using innovative technologies. Scientists from various schools, such as biology, chemistry, geology, geography, recreation, tourism, radio physics, biomedical electronics, computer systems, ecology, and computer physics and energy, collaborated on this project. With the help of this initiatives it will be possible to enable demining of territories, creation of geospatial databases, creation of digital maps of damaged lands, and design of sustainable agrolandscapes.
As Oleg Synehubov mentioned : "As of today, approximately half of our region's territory is mined. No military conflict has seen such a density of mine deployment. Therefore, this is our future direction to work on. It's a lengthy process, but there is no other way."
The Karazin team also presented the "Veterans Development Center" a project, which is set to be implemented with the support of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, and Karazin University.
At the end of the meeting, Oksen Lisovyi, along with the scientists, visited the "Biomed" laboratory at the School of Biology, which is located in a safe space, allowing practical offline sessions for interested students.
In addition, Mykhailo Vynnytskyi visited the buildings of the "Physics and Technology School", which were damaged as a result of the full-scale invasion by Russia. Together with the institute's management, it has been discussed possible strategies for cooperation and the creation of new institutional forms to support the institute's activities.
According to Mykhailo Vynnytskyi, Karazin University is an undisputed leader among the universities in Kharkiv. He emphasized the importance of promoting physics, whether it's nuclear physics, astronomy, or computer physics. Therefore, it is crucial to develop an institutional model for cooperation between universities and research institutes and academies.
Andrii Stashkiv visited the "LandauCenter" educational center, which was created to revive interest in science, primarily among young people. Currently, Karazin University is planning a complete reconstruction of the center. The plan includes creating and renovation of over 100 interactive objects, designing a new external space, entrance zone, and internal space. Furthermore, the university aims to arrange the entire territory based on principles of inclusivity.
In conclusion, Oksen Lisovyi assured that Kharkiv has a bright future, both in terms of student life and scientific achievements.
