Day of Unity of Ukraine: the university celebrates
Every year on January 22, on the day of the proclamation of the Act of Unification of the Ukrainian People's Republic and the West Ukrainian People's Republic, Ukrainians celebrate the Day of Unity.
On this day, we remember two significant events in Ukrainian history. In 1918, the IV Universal of the Central Rada was signed, by which Ukrainians for the first time in the 20th century proclaimed the independence of their own state - the Ukrainian People's Republic, the right to be "an independent, free, sovereign state of the Ukrainian people."
In 1919, the proclamation of the Act of Unification of the Ukrainian People's Republic and the West Ukrainian People's Republic became a historic unification of Ukrainian lands into one state. "From now on, the parts of the united Ukraine separated from each other for centuries - the Western Ukrainian People's Republic (Galichyna, Bukovyna and Hungarian Rus) and Transdnieper Great Ukraine - are merging together. The age-old dreams that the best sons of Ukraine lived and died for have come true. One day there is a single independent Ukrainian People's Republic," was discussed in the Universal Directory of the Ukrainian National People's Republic read out in the center of Kyiv.
This act of unification crowned the aspirations of the Ukrainians to unite, once again proved the ability of Ukrainians to unite despite all the difficulties. Congregationalism is an indispensable component of statehood, sovereignty and independence of the country. That is why the idea of unity has always been one of the basic national values of Ukrainians, and now it is a prerequisite for successful resistance to external aggression.
Today, 104 years after the proclamation of the Act of Unification, we are united in defending our rights, independence and the indivisibility of our state.
Congratulations on the Day of the Unity of Ukraine! We will withstand and win!
