Archaeologist’s Day: The Karazin Community Celebrates
On 15 August, Ukraine celebrates Archaeologist’s Day — a professional holiday dedicated to researchers who reconstruct the history of human communities through material evidence of the past, explore antiquity, and help preserve cultural heritage.
Karazin University plays an important role in the development of archaeological research and the training of specialists in this field. At the School of History, students enrolled in the History and Archaeology programme acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills in working with historical sources, master archaeological research methods, and take part in research activities.
A special place is occupied by the Karazin University Museum of Archaeology, whose collection has been built up over many decades through the research work of lecturers, students, and archaeologists. Its holdings include materials from various historical periods, from the Bronze Age and Scythian period to Antiquity, the Chernyakhiv culture, and the Saltovo-Mayaki culture. The museum’s exhibition makes it possible to view archaeological sources not merely as individual artefacts, but as evidence of the history and culture of past generations.
Today, as Ukraine defends its territory and cultural heritage, the work of archaeologists takes on particular importance. Researching, documenting, and preserving material evidence of the past is an essential part of shaping historical memory and safeguarding Ukraine’s cultural heritage.
We congratulate archaeologists, lecturers, researchers, students, and everyone dedicated to the study of the past on their professional holiday!
