Department of Dentistry
The Department of Dentistry is currently undergoing the licensing process for the educational and professional training programs of the second and third cycles of higher education in specialty 221 “Dentistry”, field of knowledge 22 “Healthcare.”
At this stage, the Department conducts practical skills training across 8 thematic modules.
The clinical training bases of the Department include the Health and Medical Unit of the Kharkiv Tractor Plant JSC and leading dental clinics “Mamont” and “D&Gclinic.”
The academic team of the Department consists of 3 Doctors of Medical Sciences and 8 PhDs in Medicine — experienced educators and clinicians, highly qualified professionals in various fields of dentistry who continuously enhance their expertise at national and international conferences, trainings, seminars, and forums.
History
The Department of Dentistry was established to expand the School of Medicine training capacities in September 2021 by Order of the Acting Rector of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University (Protocol No. 6 of 31 May 2021).
The responsibilities of the Head of the Department were assigned to Professor Andrii Yuriiovych Nikonov, Doctor of Medical Sciences, author of over 150 scientific publications and 10 patents.
The core of the academic staff consists of experienced specialists who previously worked at Kharkiv National Medical University and the Kharkiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, training dentists, Master’s students, dental interns, postgraduate students, clinical residents, international trainees, and PhD candidates.
The Department’s staff includes 3 Doctors of Medical Sciences (2 Professors) and 8 PhDs in Medicine, supported by laboratory technicians with medical education.
Lecturers are certified dental practitioners in all major fields of dentistry and possess both advanced modern and classical treatment skills. They regularly improve their professional qualifications in Ukraine and leading medical institutions abroad.
Researchers at the Department pursue a wide range of scientific interests related to the treatment and rehabilitation of patients with dental and maxillofacial pathologies.
Most lecturers hold a second Master’s degree in Higher Education Pedagogy and have certified B2 English proficiency. They have completed internships at top higher education institutions in Ukraine and worldwide.

The Department’s staff includes:

90% of the staff are full-time employees, 10% — part-time.
The Department employs one full member of the Engineering Academy of Ukraine.
High-quality education is ensured by the strong expertise and extensive professional background of the teaching staff — with an average of 25 years of pedagogical experience in higher education.
To maintain the highest academic and scientific standards, lecturers annually undertake qualification upgrading, thematic improvement courses, pedagogical mastery training, and digital innovation in education programs.
Teaching Activities
After obtaining a license for the Master’s level educational program in Dentistry (221 Dentistry), the Department plans to train higher education students in this specialty.

Innovative paths are implemented in training — 3D technologies in medicine.
Using 3D technologies enhances student competence development far more effectively than clinical training alone, requiring knowledge of computer sciences and enabling a modern interdisciplinary approach.

Methodological work is carried out continuously, aiming to provide full methodological support for all academic disciplines.

The Department develops comprehensive teaching support for each course, including:
working programs, syllabi, assessment methods, guidelines for practical classes and self-study, instructions for Bologna-process learning, banks of test and situational questions for current and final modular control, recommended literature lists, lecture texts and multimedia presentations, etc.
