Department of Surgical Diseases, Operative Surgery and Topographic Anatomy
History
The Department of Surgical Diseases, Operative Surgery and Topographic Anatomy was established in 2012 as a basic educational unit in surgery for international students. Since its foundation, the Department has been headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor I. V. Belozorov.
The Department’s academic staff includes 4 Professors, 3 Doctors of Medical Sciences, 1 Doctor of Biological Sciences, 10 Associate Professors, 9 Candidates of Medical Sciences, and 1 Candidate of Biological Sciences.
Scientific and Methodological Work
The Department’s staff develop educational and methodological materials covering a wide range of courses, including: Operative Surgery and Topographic Anatomy (Russian and English), General Surgery (English), Surgical Diseases (English), Nursing Practice (English), Patient Care (English), Urology (English), Ophthalmology (English), Otorhinolaryngology (English), Dentistry (Russian), Cardiovascular Surgery (English), and Pharmacology (English).
Department members actively participate in professional international and interregional conferences, symposia, congresses, and scientific meetings held in Ukraine, the CIS countries, and abroad.
All Department staff members work at the clinic of the State Institution “Institute of General and Emergency Surgery of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine”, headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor V. V. Boyko.
Teaching Process
Independent work of students at the Department’s clinical bases is предусмотрено across all disciplines. In addition to curriculum-based topics, students are assigned tasks to independently study recent scientific periodicals, followed by presenting the material in the form of multimedia presentations. During independent study, Department lecturers provide consultations and guidance on the preparation and presentation of students’ work.
All lectures are delivered using multimedia and other modern educational technologies. The teaching process incorporates active learning formats, including concise analytical presentations on the most relevant topics, new classifications, diagnostic methods, and treatment recommendations, as well as the development of practical skills through individual training with each student during practical classes.
