The Department of Business Foreign Languages and Translation

The Department of Business Foreign Languages and Translation was established in 2001 to provide specialized language training for bachelor’s and master’s students of the School of Economics, and later also for students of the School of International Economic Relations and Travel Business (now the Karazin Institute of International Relations and Travel Business).

The department employs 24 instructors of English, German, French, and Spanish, including 1 Doctor of Philology (Professor), 9 Candidates of Science (Associate Professors), 10 Senior Lecturers, and 4 Lecturers. Most faculty members are graduates of the School of Foreign Languages of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. The teaching staff is distinguished by high professionalism, scientific expertise, and extensive practical experience. Faculty members participate in academic exchange programs with universities in the United States and Europe (France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, etc.), as well as in international scientific and practical conferences, round tables, and research and educational projects.

The department provides training in foreign languages for professional communication: English, as well as a second foreign language of the student’s choice – German, French, or Spanish – ensuring the necessary prerequisites for achieving a B2/B2+ proficiency level for bachelor’s and master’s students. Teaching is conducted using modern educational methodologies, including CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) and contemporary technologies such as networked computer programs, video, audio, and multimedia tools.

The department also trains postgraduate and doctoral students in the specialty 035 / B11 Philology, conducts research in philology, foreign language teaching methodology, and psychology, and periodically publishes the professional academic journal Cognition, communication, discourse.

The department is headed by Iryna Semenivna Shevchenko, Doctor of Philology, Professor, and Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Higher Education of Ukraine.
