Department of Statistics, Accounting and Auditing
The Department of Statistics, Accounting and Auditing was established in 1953. At that time, it trained specialists in the fields of Political Economy and National Economic Planning. The department was founded and for 18 years headed by Zinovii Lazarovych Zhytnytskyi, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor.
Since 1966, the department has become a graduating unit, launching enrolment in the speciality Statistics. Alongside this, it provided academic support for all specialities within the faculty and took part in creating new educational programmes.
The department’s research activities focus on:
“Developing principles and methods of statistical methodology for studying socio-economic phenomena in the context of market economy development.”
Training is carried out in the specialities Economic Statistics and Accounting and Auditing.
The speciality Economic Statistics is one of the leading programmes at the School of Economics. A graduate with a degree in statistics is prepared to work in positions such as: economist (in statistical institutions, government departments, enterprises, firms, and associations); specialist or junior researcher (in research organisations); lecturer, senior laboratory assistant, or methodologist (in educational institutions).
The speciality Accounting and Auditing is among the most in-demand programmes at the School of Economics. Graduates in this field work across various sectors of the economy in positions related to accounting, and as financial managers of industrial enterprises and organisations, as well as in auditing firms and state regulatory bodies in roles such as auditor, tax inspector, and others.
Graduates of the Department of Statistics, Accounting and Auditing receive strong fundamental academic and practical training. Figuratively speaking, they are “programmed” for continuous renewal and expansion of their knowledge throughout their professional careers. Graduates can work in the institutions of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, in administrative bodies and government departments, in industrial associations, enterprises of all forms of ownership, market structures, municipal institutions, as well as in sector-specific research organisations and educational establishments.
