Gender equality

Gender equality is a concept of equal rights for different gender representatives. Equality is a crucial component of society and world development.

The Student Council of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University has been advocating for gender equality for years, supporting the ratification of the Istanbul Convention in Ukraine and achieving decent results among its members. We promote the principles of equality within the organization. We use gender-sensitive vocabulary in our documents to avoid gender stereotypes.

We treat people equally, regardless of their sex or gender; our organization does not diminish the role of women and does not tolerate any manifestations of violence. Our organization follows gender-balanced recruitment, equal training and development opportunities for all, and sticks to no "sticky floor" or "glass ceiling" principle.

Statistics:

  • over the past 4 years, there have been 4 secretaries with 2 male and 2 female representatives;
  • currently 60% of administration of the student department councils are female and 40% are male;
  • over the past 8 years, there have been 6 chairmen of the university student council, 3 of which are female and 3 male.

And, naturally, gender participation in public decision-making processes such as voting issues or elections, is absolutely balanced. The next goal of the Student Council of Kharkiv National University is to work with gender stereotypes among students. Social stereotypes are usually caused by lack of information, so we plan to implement various outreach activities among students to change the general perception of gender roles and the distribution of responsibilities between men and women.
