The Centre for Inclusive Education
The Centre for Inclusive Education of the Department of Social and Educational Initiatives and Community Development is a structural unit of the Department of Social and Educational Initiatives and Community Development of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. The Centre’s mission is to implement state policy in the field of inclusive education, create a barrier-free, accessible, and inclusive educational environment, ensure equal access to educational, social, information, and other University services for persons with special educational needs, persons with disabilities, and other groups with limited mobility, as well as coordinate the activities of the University’s structural units in developing inclusive education, accessibility, and a culture of equal opportunities.
The Centre’s main areas of activity include:
- Creating a comfortable and inclusive educational environment at the University by ensuring that every participant in the educational process, including students with special educational needs, has the opportunity to exercise their educational and social rights and meet their needs;
- Assessing and providing recommendations for improving the University’s facilities and infrastructure in order to adapt the educational process to the needs of students with special educational needs;
- Organising support for students with special educational needs, including professional development for representatives of various fields to work in inclusive education settings;
- Providing consultations and methodological support to the University’s teaching and academic staff on delivering the educational process for students with special educational needs;
- Promoting an inclusive culture within the University community, respect for persons with disabilities, and recognition of the value of every participant in the educational process, as well as developing and implementing effective measures to enhance inclusiveness at the University.
