Commemorating the 110th Anniversary of the Birth of Petro Tymofiiovych Tronko

On July 12, 2025, under the auspices of the National Union of Local Historians of Ukraine, events were held in Kyiv to mark the 110th anniversary of the birth of the patriarch of Ukrainian local history, Hero of Ukraine, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Honorary Doctor and the first Chair of the Supervisory Board of Karazin University — Petro Tronko.
Kharkiv region was represented at the event by Olha Vovk, Deputy Director of the Petro Tronko Center for Ukrainian Studies and Local History, lecturer at the Department of Historiography, Source Studies, and Archaeology at Karazin University, and Deputy Head of the Kharkiv branch of the National Union of Local Historians of Ukraine.
The day began with a flower-laying ceremony at the grave of Academician P. T. Tronko at Baikove Cemetery. The ceremony was attended by Oleksandr Reient, Head of the National Union of Local Historians of Ukraine, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine, and Deputy Director of the Institute of History of Ukraine; Petro Tronko’s daughter, Larysa Petrivna; and representatives of the local history community from various regions of Ukraine.
Later, a ceremonial meeting of the Presidium of the National Union of Local Historians was held. The event took place at the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War — a museum in the establishment of which P. T. Tronko played a key role. The ceremony included the awarding of the Petro Tronko Prize laureates. New local history publications and a commemorative film were presented on the occasion of the anniversary. Participants also had the opportunity to explore the current museum exhibitions.
