All-Ukrainian Seminar on Social Geography "Current Global Challenges to Social Geography: Problems and Prospects"
On March 18, 2021, the Department of Social and Economic Geography and Regional Studies of the School of Geology, Geography, Recreation and Tourism of Karazin University together with the Department of Economic and Social Geography of the School of Geography of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv held the first All-Ukrainian Seminar on Social Geography «Current Global Challenges to Social Geography: Problems and Prospects».
The event, which took place online, was attended by more than 80 public geographers from 20 regions of Ukraine.
During the seminar, those present discussed the current challenges facing social geography: the place and role of social geography in the system of sciences and geography, the avant-garde role of social geography in solving global problems of today, civilizational challenges to social geography and their solutions, problems of urbanization and world cities from the standpoint of social geography.
Those present also decided to hold such a seminar on a regular basis, discussed the establishment of the Association of Public Geographers of Ukraine, which is an important step towards providing an effective platform for communication, timely, joint and effective response to today’s challenges, integration into the European and world geographical community.
In addition, an initiative group was created to summarize proposals, develop a strategy for holding the all-Ukrainian seminar on social geography and launching the Association of Public Geographers of Ukraine.
