All-Ukrainian Scientific Conference "Theoretical and Applied Aspects of Biographistics: Commemorating the 170th Anniversary of Mykola Fedorovych Sumtsov
On May 10, 2024, the IX All-Ukrainian Scientific Conference "Theoretical and Applied Aspects of Biographistics: to the 170th Anniversary of Mykola Fedorovych Sumtsov's Birth" took place at Karazin University. The conference brought together participants from Kharkiv, Kyiv, Lviv, Lutsk, Poltava, and other cities.
The event was dedicated to the memory of the prominent historian, ethnographer, museum worker, graduate, and professor of Kharkiv University, who made an invaluable contribution to the study of the material and non-material cultural heritage of Slobozhanshchyna.
The conference was co-organized by the Department of Ukrainian Studies of the School of Philosophy and the Center for Ukrainian Studies and Local Lore named after Academician P.T. Tronko.
At the plenary session, the participants were greeted by the Chair of the conference organizing committee, Dean of the School of Philosophy, Professor Ivan Karpenko. He thanked the team of organizers for the event and emphasized its significance for the study of the history and culture of Sloboda Ukraine.
Deputy Director of the Center for Ukrainian Studies and Local History named after Academician P.T. Tronko, Olha Vovk, reminded the audience of the words of Mykola Sumtsov, which remain relevant today: "The best way for political, national, and social revival should be the broad path of general education, science, and its dissemination throughout all layers of society."
The heiress of the Sumtsov family, Associate Professor of the National Pharmaceutical University, Senior Researcher at the Kharkiv Historical Museum named after M.F. Sumtsov, Hanna Khirina, presented the report "Mykola Sumtsov - a Figure in the Context of History and Modernity."
Senior Researcher at the Institute of Art History, Folklore, and Ethnology named after M.T. Rylsky of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Associate Professor Valentyna Sushko, delivered a report "Ukrainian Kharkiv in the Works of Academician M.F. Sumtsov."
In addition, the Head of the Department of Rare Books, Valuable Publications, and Manuscripts of the Central Scientific Library of the University, Nataliia Prots, presented a book exhibition dedicated to the 170th anniversary of M.F. Sumtsov.
Also, during the plenary session of the conference, there was a presentation of the scientific-reference publication "Vasili Nazarovych Karazin. Biobibliography", which was awarded a diploma at the XXIII General University Exhibition-Competition of Educational and Scientific Literature.
The conference continued its work in two sections: "Mykola Sumtsov - Professor and Citizen" and "Biographistics: Theoretical and Applied Studies".
