The All-Ukrainian Scientific Conference "The Figure of Ivan Lypa in the Dimensions of Epochs"

From February 21–23, 2025, the Ukrainian National Scientific Library in Odesa hosted the All-Ukrainian Scientific Conference "The Figure of Ivan Lypa in the Dimensions of Epochs" on the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Lypa (1865–1923), a graduate of Karazin University, renowned public and political figure, writer, and doctor.

Several divisions of Karazin University participated in the event's organization: the Department of Ukrainian Studies at the School of Philosophy, the Center for Ukrainian Studies and Local History named after Academician P. T. Tronko, and the Central Scientific Library.

The list of conference organizers also included the School of Ukrainian Philology, Culture, and Arts of the Kyiv Metropolitan University named after Borys Hrinchenko, the School of History and Philosophy of the Odesa National University named after I. I. Mechnikov, the Odesa branch of the National Union of Local History Experts of Ukraine, the Ivan and Yurii Lypa Charity Fund, the State Institution "Ukrainian Institute of Educational Development," the Scientific Library of the Lviv National Medical University named after Danylo Halytskyi.

The conference aimed to explore the life and legacy of Ivan Lypa, his contribution to Ukrainian culture and history.

The conference proceeded in the following sections:

  • Ivan and Yurii Lypa in the National-Political and Public Space of Ukraine
  • Ivan and Yurii Lypa in the Cultural Space and Historical Memory
  • Literary Work of Ivan Lypa: Historical Aspect and Contemporary Context
  • Yurii Lypa in the Historical, Political, and Literary Dimensions
  • Ivan Lypa: Source Studies and Biographical Studies

In addition to plenary and sectional sessions, the conference program included events aimed at popularizing Ukrainian culture. Among them were the event "Ivan Lypa: The Legacy of a State Builder for the Future" at the Odesa Academic Ukrainian Musical and Drama Theater named after V. Vasylyk, a donation ceremony of the restored Ivan Lypa’s embroidered shirt to the Odesa Historical and Local History Museum, the art exhibition "Enlightenment 2.0" at the public space @nachasi.space, and a series of book exhibitions.

The large-scale conference brought together historians, local history experts, library professionals from Odesa, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Lviv, Kropyvnytskyi, Rivne, as well as from Zaporizhzhia and Chernihiv regions.
