Open Regional Financial Literacy Tournament: Results of the Competition

On December 10, 2021, Karazin University held an award ceremony for the winners of the IV Open Regional Financial Literacy Tournament, organized by the Kharkiv Banking Union, Kharkiv University Consortium, Karazin University, and the NGO "Partner Business Club".

The tournament is held in order to increase students' financial literacy, as a necessary condition for improving the level and quality of life. The peculiarity of this year's tournament was that the teams representing the city of Kharkiv and Kharkiv region were joined by teams of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University, Zaporizhzhia National University, Nadvirna Lyceum "Prestige" of the Nadvirna City Council of Ivano-Frankivsk region.

The awarding of the tournament winners took place with the participation of the University administration headed by President, Tetyana Kaganovska, People's Deputy of Ukraine Yevhen Pyvovarov, Director of the Department of Science and Education of Kharkiv Regional State Administration, Anzhelika Krutova.

President Tetyana Kaganovska noted that during the existence of Karazin University, educational programs have always been developed in such a way that graduates are not just in demand, but become generators of ideas, engines of progress in their competencies, therefore it is important to teach young people financial literacy, to develop practical skills in using financial services.

"I am very happy that today we have gathered at Karazin University. This is a fundamental university — a pillar of our science, the intellect of our nation. You are the leaders of student youth, so study, work and move our country forward by your example," said People's Deputy of Ukraine Yevhen Pyvovarov.

"This tournament is very important for the whole of Ukraine, because a financially knowledgeable community is a financially prosperous country. Today you are making a significant step towards your successful future," Anzhelika Krutova addressed the audience.

The participants of the tournament were evaluated by a jury consisting of the President of the Kharkiv Banking Union, Olena Zhukova; Director of the Department of Science and Education of Kharkiv Regional State Administration, Anzhelika Krutova; Natalia Pohorelova, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Megabank JSC; Viktoriia Danylenko, Head of the Retail Products Support Department of Megabank JSC; Nina Grishina, Executive Director of the Kharkiv Banking Union; Liudmyla Vremenko, President of the Kharkiv Union of Insurers; Maryna Hosha, Head of the Kharkiv Branch of the “‘Partner’ Business Club”; Hennadii Ivanov, Charter President of the Kharkiv New Level Rotary Club; Olha Myshko, Senior Lecturer at the Kharkiv State Academy of Culture; Chairman of the Board of the GRANT BANK JSC, Valerii Pakhomov; Oleksii Yatsenko, Chairman of the Board of Megabank JSC; Mykola Obod, Head of the Kharkiv Regional Office of the Eastern Regional Retail Business Department of Ukrsibbank JSC; Natalia Kotova, Head of the Retail Business of the Slobozhansk Directorate of Alfa-Bank Ukraine JSC; Natalia Savchenko, Head of the E-Commerce and Means of Payment Department of Oschadbank JSC; Tetiana Poltavska, Head of PUMB branch "North-East Regional Center"; Oleh Zavashchenko, Manager of Budgetary Organizations of the North-East Region Department of PrivatBank JSC; Director of the Kharkiv Regional Directorate of Ukrgasbank JSC, Alla Pyvovar; Head of the Retail Business Department of the Kharkiv Region OTP Bank, Anna Brus; Mykola Miedviediev, Deputy Head of the North-East Regional Department of Vostok Bank JSC; Liudmyla Atamanchuk, Regional Director of Idea Bank JSC North-East Region.

The first stage of the tournament took place in the form of testing in the LMS Moodle system, the second stage was held in the format of a game in the socio-economic simulator "Living Capital". In the third stage, the teams prepared videos on financial literacy.

This year, the participants of the financial literacy tournament were 11 teams from higher education institutions, 9 teams from professional higher education institutions, and 85 teams from the group of general secondary education institutions. In total, 630 participants competed in the tournament, which is a kind of record compared to previous years.
