Meeting of the Supervisory Board of Karazin University Held
On February 6, V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University hosted its first Supervisory Board meeting of 2026.
The meeting began with a minute of silence in memory of members of the Karazin community and of the late Olena Hrechanina, a former member of the Supervisory Board. Participants emphasized that the university’s ability to continue its work uninterrupted today is a direct result of the heroism and resilience of the Ukrainian people.
A special highlight of the meeting was the celebration of the 221st anniversary of Karazin University. The Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Academician Anatolii Zahorodnii, President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, conveyed congratulations to the university on behalf of the NAS of Ukraine, noting the historic role of Karazin University in shaping national science and its significant contemporary achievements.

The key item on the agenda was the presentation and discussion of the Rector’s annual report on the university’s activities in 2025. The report was delivered by Rector Tetyana Kaganovska, who noted that this report was particularly meaningful to her, as her term as Rector will conclude in six months. In her address, the Rector emphasized that 2025 marked the continuation of a challenging yet responsible stage in the university’s development amid the full-scale war. All management decisions were made with a clear focus on preserving people — students, staff, the academic community — and safeguarding the university’s strategic future. Education, research, and the continuity of university life remained unwavering priorities.
The report also highlighted the university’s stable positions in national and international rankings, an increase in the number of applicants, and the continued development of educational programs and sports. Today, the university community brings together nearly 16,000 students and 4,000 staff members.
“Today we once again demonstrate that our 220th year was not only successful but also truly productive,” Tetyana Kaganovska concluded.
During the discussion, Anatolii Zahorodnii highly praised the results of Karazin University’s activities in 2025. Other members of the Supervisory Board also gave positive assessments of the university’s achievements. As part of the meeting, Olena Rofe-Beketova, founder of the Alchevskyi – Beketov Family Charitable Foundation, addressed the audience and expressed gratitude to the university leadership for their attention to and support of the scouting organization Plast in Kharkiv as an important element of civic and patriotic education for young people.

The Supervisory Board meeting confirmed the strategic resilience of Karazin University, the continuity of its values, and the readiness of the university community to responsibly shape the future in the face of today’s challenges.
