Webinar "Academic integrity as a Basic Professional Competency of a Modern Researcher"

On March 18, 2021, Karazin University held the webinar «Academic integrity as a Basic Professional Competency of a Modern Researcher» for graduate and postgraduate students of the 1st and 2nd year of study.

The event speakers were the Deputy Head of the Human Resources Department, Serhii Makhnovskyi, and the Director of the Center for Public Relations, Maksym Folomieiev.

During the webinar, the speakers drew attention to the important role of academic ethos and academic integrity among the professional competencies of a modern researcher.

In particular, Serhii Makhnovskyi spoke about the signs of academic integrity and dishonesty, the researcher’s code of ethics, gave examples of violations of academic integrity. He noted that Karazin University systematically ensures compliance with the principles of academic integrity, which are set out in the «Karazin University’s Code of Values».

Maksym Folomieiev spoke in more detail about ensuring academic integrity at Karazin University, emphasizing the University’s cooperation with companies that check papers for borrowing (Strikeplagiarism. com and Unicheck. com). He told about the types of papers that are checked for borrowing at the University, and the results of such inspections.

Maksym Folomieiev also gave eloquent and illustrative examples from the European experience in preventing academic dishonesty in various fields.

At the end of the event, everyone could ask questions to the speakers.

During the webinar, the speakers used the materials of the presentation «Research Integrity: Praemonitus praemunitus» of Sumy State University Group of Academic Integrity Promotion: member of the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance, member of the Working Group «Research Integrity» (EURODOC), Head of the Academic Integrity Promotion Group, Associate Professor, Artem Artiukhov; and the Head of the Academic Integrity Research Laboratory of Sumy State University, Deputy Head of the Academic Integrity Promotion Group, Yurii Volk, which were presented during the theoretical part of the refresher course on February 6, 2021 (Slavske, Lviv region).

In addition, the speakers used the materials of the speech «Ensuring Compliance with the Requirements of Academic Integrity at the University» by the Director of the Educational Center for Academic Process Quality Management and Monitoring of the Department of Education Quality Assurance of Karazin University, Serhii Yeltsov.

The webinar was held within the implementation of the practical component of the refresher course «Accreditation of Educational Programs of the Third Level of Higher Education. Research Integrity».
