This news has been particularly significant for the School of Biology and the Laboratory of Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution of the Department of Zoology and Animal Ecology.

Power outages caused by the destruction of Ukraine's energy generating facilities by russia posed a threat to the proper functioning of the laboratory.

First of all, this concerns a number of freezers that need to constantly maintain a temperature of -20°C. These freezers store unique collections gathered in the Arctic, Antarctica, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, and sent by colleagues from France, Germany, Chile, and other countries.

These collections contain materials for international molecular genetic research. The new system will allow for the reliable storage of unique samples under conditions of unstable power supply.

The system will also allow the connection and reliable use of equipment for molecular genetic research, such as PCR amplifiers and DNA sequencers, which are very sensitive to power quality, and their stoppage completely disrupts valuable experiments.

As representatives of the School of Biology say: “We are confident that the uninterrupted power supply system will attract even more bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral students to molecular genetic research, timely and efficiently complete planned work, support, and preserve this direction of research at our university!”

In times of constant threats from Russia, the university must seek all ways to overcome challenges. Karazin University is sincerely glad to have friends who extend a helping hand in difficult times.

We are sincerely grateful to the American charitable organization Direct Relief, the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, and the Charitable Foundation of Yevgeny Pivovarov for providing energy storage systems! We express our gratitude to the Kharkiv Karazin University Foundation for facilitating the receipt of this significant assistance!
