The Ceremonial event "220 – The Energy of Generations"

30 january 2025 year

On January 29, we returned to the place where the remarkable history of Karazin University began – the historic university building.

It was here, on January 29, 1805, that the distinguished scientist and educator Vasyl Karazin initiated a momentous event – the opening of one of the oldest universities in Eastern Europe.

The event began with a moment of silence in memory of all those whose lives were tragically cut short by war, honoring the fallen heroes.

Rector Tetyana Kaganovska addressed the audience with a welcoming speech:
"Today, on this symbolic day, we have gathered here to pay tribute to the history of Karazin University, the history of Kharkiv, and the history of Ukraine. Kharkiv stands strong, and so does our university. Since its foundation, Karazin University has remained a center of science, education, and enlightenment. From its very beginning, it has been the heart of the city, a symbol of ideas that have shaped history."

Distinguished guests attended the anniversary event, including:

Yevhen Ivanov, Deputy Head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration

Ihor Terekhov, Mayor of Kharkiv

Volodymyr Ponomarenko, Head of the Council of Rectors of Kharkiv Region

Archbishop Mitrofan, Head of the Military Chaplaincy Service of the Operational-Tactical Group "Kharkiv" of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine

Viktor Kovtun, Chairman of the Board of the Kharkiv Branch of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, Deputy Chairman of the University’s Supervisory Board

Volodymyr Salenkov, Honorary Doctor of Karazin University.

Each guest emphasized the significance of Karazin University as a city-forming institution and a hallmark of Kharkiv. The fact that, even in the third year of full-scale war, the university maintains its leading positions in rankings is a testament to the resilience of the institution, its students, and faculty.

The event also featured the unveiling of a special postage stamp commemorating Karazin University's anniversary. The ceremony was attended by Tetiana Fomenko, representative of "Ukrposhta" in the Kharkiv region, and Maryna Hulevska, Director of the Department for Network Development of the Kharkiv Region at "Ukrposhta."

During the gathering, members of the Karazin community reflected on the power of prayer as a source of healing and protection. A prayer for Ukraine was delivered by Archbishop Mitrofan and military chaplains.

The event's unforgettable atmosphere was enhanced by performances from the vocal trio "Dusha", the Ad Libitum academic choir of Karazin University, the folk dance theater "Zapovit", and the stage dance theater "Estet".

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all attendees for their warm words and invaluable support.
