Ukrainian Researchers Visit Poland as Part of the “Polish Research Landscape” Study Tour
From 24 to 28 November 2025, the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS) Office in Kyiv, in cooperation with the Leaders of Change Foundation, organized a study visit to Poland entitled “Polish Research Landscape” for representatives of Ukraine’s research and innovation sector.
The event brought together 20 participants representing the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the National Academy of Medical Sciences, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and 14 universities from Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Sumy, Dnipro, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Rivne.
Karazin University was represented by Anton Panteleimonov, Vice-Rector for Research and Academic Affairs, and Iryna Shteimiller, Head of the International Relations Office.
Day 1: Overview of Polish Research Infrastructure
During the first day, participants attended a presentation by a representative of the Information Processing Center (OPI-PIB), who provided an in-depth overview of the current state of science in Poland based on the Science in Poland report, as well as the institute’s activities, recent projects, and available IT systems (POL-on, RAD-on, Navoica).
Mateusz Białas, Director of the PAS Office in Kyiv, presented the structure and operational principles of the Polish Academy of Sciences, with a particular focus on international scientific cooperation.
The day concluded with a seminar led by Bohdana Hrynyshyn, Director of the PAS Excellence in Science Office, dedicated to building partnerships and international consortia within EU programmes.
Visits to Key Research Institutions
In the following days, participants visited major Polish research institutions, including the:

ITECH Institute of the Łukasiewicz Research Network

Institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Institute of Physical Chemistry and Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology)
These visits featured presentations on institutional structures, development strategies, priority research areas, international cooperation programmes, and laboratory infrastructures.
Particular interest was generated by discussions on strategic development pathways, ongoing projects, and opportunities for securing additional research funding.
Educational Initiatives and EU Cooperation
Participants also learned about the teacher education programme jointly implemented by the Polish-American Freedom Foundation School of Education and the University of Warsaw, which focuses on innovative pedagogical standards.
On the final day, Katarzyna Skorupka, expert at the PolSCA Science Promotion Office in Brussels, led a discussion on cooperation with EU institutions.
The visit concluded at the Copernicus Science Centre, where participants explored approaches to science communication and public engagement, along with a guided tour of the centre’s exhibition spaces.
