KARAZIN ReHab Scientific and Practical Rehabilitation Center

26 november 2024 year

On November 25, the Karazin ReHab Scientific and Practical Rehabilitation Center was presented at the Center for Veteran Development of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. The event was attended by university administrators, Anna Lukateli, Head of Regional Recovery of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Ukraine, and other UNDP representatives.

The center will provide comprehensive psychophysical rehabilitation for individuals affected by the war. It currently includes motor and manual therapy zones designed for restoring range of motion and treating musculoskeletal conditions. During the opening ceremony, exercises on a rehabilitation table and equipment for gait restoration were demonstrated.

"Now more than ever, we affirm that the university's core mission is social responsibility. A university located so close to the front line cannot remain indifferent. We are constantly looking for ways to contribute to our society," said Tetyana Kaganovska, Rector of Karazin University.

Despite the complete destruction of the university clinic by Russian forces, Karazin University remains undeterred, establishing new practical bases and medical assistance hubs that are vital today. The university has engaged specialists from its medical, sociology, and psychology faculties to ensure the rehabilitation center functions effectively. In 2024, Karazin University launched a new educational program, "Therapy and Rehabilitation," enrolling 43 students who will actively participate in the center's future activities.

Looking ahead, "Karazin ReHab" plans to offer unique comprehensive assistance to civilians, veterans, those affected by military actions, and individuals with health issues unrelated to the war.

The initiative to establish the Karazin ReHab Scientific and Practical Rehabilitation Center is being implemented by the NGO "Association of Alumni, Professors, and Friends of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University" with technical administration by ISAR Ednannia and support from UNDP Ukraine. It is financed by the European Union within the "EU4Recovery — Empowering Communities in Ukraine" project and supported by the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The university also extends gratitude to its alumna and staff member of the School of Sociology, Maryna Lytovchenko, for her significant contribution to acquiring the rehabilitation therapy table.

The university envisions significant plans for the development of "Karazin ReHab," including involving more specialists and exploring opportunities to enhance the center's capabilities to support Ukrainian society!
