On May 13, Karazin University hosted a dialogue with Pavlo Sheremeta — a well-known Ukrainian economist, professor at the Kyiv School of Economics, and ambassador of the “BizON” project. The event was organized within the framework of the “BizON” initiative, implemented by the Center for Public Expertise with the support of the United Nations Development Programme and financial backing from the Government of Japan.

During the discussion titled “Innovation and Entrepreneurship as a Driver of Economic Breakthrough: The Role of the University,” Pavlo Sheremeta shared his insights on the current challenges facing the Ukrainian economy and the opportunities for its growth.

He focused on three key areas that must be improved to achieve Ukraine’s economic success:

  • Economic freedom – the importance of reducing state control and adopting more liberal economic policies to stimulate entrepreneurship;

  • Productivity – increasing labor and capital efficiency as the foundation for sustainable economic growth;

  • Savings – the need to boost national savings to attract investment and ensure economic stability.

The meeting was held in a conversational format, allowing students and faculty members to ask questions and discuss critical aspects of Ukraine’s economic development. Mr. Sheremeta emphasized the value of investing in knowledge and education, highlighting the role of universities as engines of innovation and entrepreneurship.

We thank Mr. Sheremeta for his visit and for contributing to a meaningful dialogue on the future of Ukraine’s economic development.
