Karazin University held a Workshop "Elementary Particle Therapy"

For the first time in Ukraine, a workshop "Elementary Particle Therapy" was held for senior high school students at the Education and Research Institute “School of Physics and Technology” at Karazin University.

During the event, experts demonstrated the direct impact of fundamental research on medical applications. The high school students were introduced to the actual techniques used in cancer treatment, including the use of X-ray radiation, protons, or carbon ions as a physical knife controlled by software.

Using the professional research software tool matRad, participants were visually guided through various stages of cancer treatment planning.

The workshop "Particle Therapy for Cancer" was part of the International Masterclasses in Particle Physics, a flagship project of the International Particle Physics Outreach Group (IPPOG), distributed worldwide.
