Teacher Training in Biology, Ecology, and Natural Sciences Launched at Karazin University

On September 30, 2025, Karazin University began professional development courses for teachers and lecturers of biology, ecology, and natural sciences from general secondary, vocational, and pre-tertiary education institutions in Kharkiv and the Volyn region.

The training of participants, aimed at modernizing and updating their professional competencies, will be provided by leading academic staff of the Department of Genetics and Cytology, School of Biology. In particular, Associate Professor of the Department of Genetics and Cytology and practicing educator, Olha Tahlina, will conduct scientific-practical and vision sessions covering contemporary challenges in the educational process (motivational principles of learning, summarizing learning outcomes by groups of competencies, preparing 10th–11th grade students for successful completion of the 2026 NMT biology exam, taking into account the strengths and weaknesses of the 2025 NMT, and more).

She is the author of new curricula in natural sciences, biology, and ecology for the “New Ukrainian School,” co-author of relevant textbooks for students, and a contributor to a number of scientific and methodological handbooks for educators.

At the opening session, participants honored the memory of Ukrainian citizens who have perished since February 2022.

The Director of the Institute of Continuing Education, Mykhailo Tatarinov, presented the participants with the algorithm for preparing their final creative projects, explained the specifics of conducting classes according to the number of hours and credits chosen by teachers, emphasized the principles of internal institutional audits in educational establishments, and conducted a briefing on life and health safety in the conditions of martial law.

The professional development courses will continue until October 13 and October 20, depending on the specifics of the program chosen by the participants.
