The Third Anniversary of Russia's Full-Scale Invasion of Ukraine

24 february 2025 year

Eleven years ago, russia occupied Ukrainian territories — Crimea was seized first, followed by parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. However, February 24, 2022, became a turning point in our history — a day when the entire country united against russian occupiers. A day of determination. A day of courage. It was the day we consolidated all our efforts to preserve our statehood in every possible way.

From the very beginning of the full-scale invasion, Karazin University remained in Kharkiv. We helped and supported each other, firmly believing that our unbreakable city would stand strong.

And Kharkiv endured. The city stands thanks to the boundless bravery of Ukrainian soldiers, who defend us every second. Many of our graduates, students, and staff members joined Ukraine’s Defense Forces. Unfortunately, since 2014, the Karazin community has lost 64 defenders. Eternal honor to each one who gave their life. To preserve their memory, the university established both physical and virtual memorials in 2022.

Many Karazin members continue to defend Ukraine, and the university stands by them. Faculties, institutes, the Student Council, various departments, and the Kharkiv Karazin University Foundation have launched and successfully completed numerous fundraising campaigns to support Ukraine’s armed forces. In 2025 alone, the university community raised over 400,000 UAH during a charity evening organized by the Student Council, and the Karazin University Foundation provided a Starlink satellite communication system to the 151st Separate Mechanized Brigade.

Meanwhile, our scientists bring global recognition to Ukraine with their unique research and discoveries. Karazin scholars also contribute to national defense projects, strengthening Ukraine’s security capabilities. Victory in this war is a collective effort — not only on the battlefield but also on the home front.

Equally crucial are efforts toward post-war recovery. The university recognizes the need to implement rehabilitation mechanisms now. In 2024, Karazin University launched Karazin ReHub, a scientific and practical rehabilitation center designed to provide comprehensive support to veterans, civilians, and individuals affected by the war.

Today, Karazin University wishes to express deep gratitude to everyone who has stood by our side — our partners and friends, colleagues from other universities who offered their support, our students, faculty, and staff who remained loyal to Karazin, and our applicants from 2022 to 2024, including those from other countries, who placed their trust in our institution. Together, we can overcome any challenge.

Let us stand united — moving forward together toward our victorious and peaceful dawn.

Glory to Ukraine! Glory to our heroes!
