First-Year Master’s Student of the School of Law, Sofiia Vasylenko becomes a Winner of the All-Ukrainian Research Paper Competition "Ukraine’s Ombudsman: Protecting Human Rights During Wartime". Sofiia Vasylenko, a first-year Master’s student at the School of Law, has been named one of the winners of the All-Ukrainian research paper competition titled "Ukraine’s Ombudsman: Protecting Human Rights During Wartime." She was invited to participate in the International Human Rights Conference "The Decade 2014–2024: Reclaiming Human Rights, Preserving Democracy."
This large-scale conference, organized by the Office of the Ombudsman of Ukraine, the Office of the President of Ukraine, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, was held in Kyiv from December 4–6, 2024. The event brought together over a thousand representatives of government and international organizations from around the world, human rights defenders, journalists, and members of civil society. The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić, traveled to Ukraine to personally attend this event.
Discussion panels took place on the sidelines of the conference with the participation of Ombudsman’s representatives and international speakers. Topics included the crisis in the global human rights system and ways to overcome it, the search for and return of Ukrainians from Russian captivity, reintegration of liberated civilians, protection of children’s rights, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and a range of other pressing issues.
