The Annual Conference of PhD Students and Doctoral Candidates at Karazin University
On November 28, with the support of the Council of Young Scientists, the Annual Conference of PhD students and doctoral candidates of the university took place.
The conference was attended by 54 delegates representing the university's PhD students and doctoral candidates. The participants were welcomed by Vice-Rector Oleksandr Holovko and the head of the Department of Postgraduate Studies, Doctoral Studies, and PhD Program Support, Natalia Petrenko.
During the conference, the report on the activities of the Council of Young Scientists was approved, and challenges and opportunities for PhD students and doctoral candidates at Karazin University were discussed.
A decision has been made to initiate the establishment of a regular scientific-methodological seminar for PhD students, doctoral candidates, and young researchers at the university. Within the framework of the seminar, the following important issues for young scientists are planned to be discussed:
- Preparation for accreditation.
- Features of access to and use of scientometric databases.
- Development of soft skills.
- Academic integrity.
- Grant activities.
- Preparation of publications, submission of articles to journals indexed in scientometric databases.
- Issues of academic mobility.
Elections were held for the delegate from PhD students and doctoral candidates to the University Academic Council. PhD student Sviatoslav Dmytriev from the School of Geology, Geography, Recreation, and Tourism was elected with the majority of votes. Additionally, 10 representatives from PhD students and doctoral candidates, and the Council of Young Scientists.
The event was moderated by Katerina Kravchenko, the Chair of the Council of Young Scientists.
During the conference, an updated information telegram channel was presented, where PhD students and doctoral candidates of the university can receive timely information on grants, projects, academic mobility opportunities, as well as news from the Trade Union Organization of Students, PhD students, and doctoral candidates, and the Council of Young Scientists.
The conference also announced the start of a survey of PhD students by the Council of Young Scientists and the Primary Trade Union Organization of students, PhD students, and doctoral candidates at the university. The purpose of the survey is to improve educational and scientific programs for third-level higher education seekers.
