The Educational-scientific Cluster "Karazin University — for Students of 'MetroSchools' classes in Kharkiv" began its Operation
Starting from January 5, 2024, the Postgraduate Education Center, in collaboration with the schools and educational-scientific institutes of Karazin University, initiated the operation of the educational-scientific cluster "Karazin University — to students of the 'MetroSchools' educational institutions in Kharkiv."
The specificity of the work of the educational-scientific cluster at Karazin University, unlike other higher education institutions, lies not only in conducting information and awareness-raising activities with a focus on career guidance. Primarily, it involves the organic combination of scientific-theoretical sessions on the relevant topics with workshops, focus group work, and reflection, taking into account the specific educational profile of students from a particular lyceum.
According to the cooperation agreement with Karazin University, students from the 10th and 11th grades of the municipal institution "Kharkiv Lyceum No. 104 of the Kharkiv City Council" in the "MetroSchool" class conducted practical sessions. Phillip Kuznetsov, the Director of the Institute of Physics and Technology, discussed experiments that changed the world (the top 10 experiments according to the New York Times). Alexander Akulov, the acting head of the Institute of Mycology and Phytoimmunology at the School of Biology, introduced the students to the world of fungi.
Students participated in an experiment conducted by Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer of the Institute of Applied Physics and Plasma Physics at the Institute of Physics and Technology, Inna Afanasyeva, and Alexander Hapon, titled "The Magical World of Electromagnetism." They also took part in the experiment "The World of Animals under the Microscope," led by the engineer of the Institute of Animal Zoology at the School of Biology, Sergiy Sidorovsky.
As a conclusion to the activities, the director of the postgraduate education center, Mykhailo Tatarinov, conducted a reflective session with high school students. The students expressed gratitude and satisfaction for their participation in the cluster, emphasizing the importance of the acquired competencies for their further preparation for Natural and Mathematical Sciences (NMT) in the respective subjects.
