Lecturers and students of the Ukrainian Engineering and Pedagogical Academy Education and Research Institute (ERI “UIPA”) took part in an academic mobility program at the University of Borås (Sweden) within the framework of the TEX4YUA project — “Sustainable Excellence of Ukrainian Youth in the Textile and Apparel Industry.”

The TEX4YUA project is implemented under the SI Baltic Sea Neighbourhood Programme with the support of the Swedish Institute (Svenska Institutet). Its main goal is to enhance the innovative competences of students of Ukrainian higher education institutions and young specialists in the field of textiles and apparel manufacturing.

The participants of the visit included lecturers and students from the Department of Food Technologies, Light Industry and Design of ERI “UIPA” of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, the Department of Light Industry Technologies of Lutsk National Technical University, activists of the NGO “Innovation Generation,” as well as practitioners from Reinventex LLC and 3.14 BAN.

The program of the visit was both intensive and beneficial. Together with colleagues from Bangladeshi universities, the Ukrainian representatives took part in a hackathon, where the task was to develop environmentally friendly solutions for the textile industry in the context of a sustainable future.

The University of Borås opened the doors of its advanced laboratories, where participants worked with modern weaving, knitting, and jacquard machines. They created their own weaving patterns and mastered digital tools for textile design.

An important component of the program included industrial visits to Wargön Innovation and the Smart Textile Showroom. At the Wargön Innovation headquarters, delegations from Ukraine and Bangladesh learned about effective approaches to sorting, recycling, and circular economy in the textile sector. At the Smart Textile Showroom, participants were introduced to the latest developments in the field of smart textiles.

In addition to the academic program, participants had the opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere of Borås — its architecture, cultural heritage, and the welcoming spirit of the Swedish community. The visit also included trips to Gothenburg, one of Sweden’s most beautiful port cities renowned for its architecture and maritime history, and to Varberg, where participants experienced the atmosphere of the North Sea and had time to relax after an intensive training schedule.

All participants are returning home with new knowledge, skills, ideas, and partnerships. The acquired experience will serve as a foundation for improving ERI “UIPA”’s academic programs in innovative textile technologies. There are also further plans to implement joint educational mini-projects, online courses, and research exchanges with partner universities.
