Professor of the Department of Information Technologies in Renewable Energy Mykola Hryhorovych Kokodii Has Passed Away: The Karazin Community Expresses Its Condolences

3 march 2026 year

It is with deep sorrow that we announce that on March 3, 2026, at the age of 85, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Information Technologies in Renewable Energy at the Educational and Research Institute of Ecology, Green Energy and Sustainable Development of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Mykola Hryhorovych Kokodii, passed away.

Mykola Hryhorovych was an alumnus of Karazin University and belonged to the generation of scholars for whom the university was not merely a workplace, but a calling and a way of life. He was well known and deeply respected by colleagues and students alike — as a demanding professor, principled in matters of scientific and academic integrity, and at the same time as a considerate and attentive person who was always ready to listen, support, and help in difficult situations. Until his final days, he remained with his students: just last week he was still teaching classes, maintaining his characteristic sense of responsibility and inner dignity.

Mykola Hryhorovych was born on July 20, 1940, into a family of rural teachers. In 1958, he graduated from secondary school and entered the School of Radiophysics at Kharkiv State University (now V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University). In 1963, he completed his studies and continued his postgraduate education at the Department of Radio Measurements. In 1967, he defended his Candidate of Sciences (PhD) dissertation in Physical and Mathematical Sciences. From 1962 to 1999, he worked at the university in various positions — from laboratory assistant to professor.

From 1999 to 2021, Mykola Hryhorovych worked at the National University of Pharmacy at the Department of Physics, where he taught mathematics, physics, biophysics, and related disciplines. In 2021, he returned to Karazin University and continued his teaching and research activities at the Educational and Research Institute of Ecology, Green Energy and Sustainable Development, as well as at the Faculty of Radiophysics, Biomedical Electronics and Computer Systems.

He began his scientific research in his fourth year of study, focusing on laser radiation measurements. In 1992, he defended his doctoral dissertation entitled “Methods for Measuring the Energy Characteristics of High-Power Laser Radiation.” His research was devoted to the study of the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with matter, mathematical modeling of physical processes, automation of experiments, and processing of experimental data.

As a lecturer, Mykola Hryhorovych fostered in his students a culture of experimentation, a commitment to precision, and responsibility for results. He taught the following courses: “Engineering Experiment in Physics,” “Advanced Data Processing Technologies in Physics,” “Experimental Design and Data Processing,” “Mathematical Modeling of Energy Processes,” “Devices and Mechanisms in Energy Engineering,” and “Data Structures in Energy Applications.”

The university community bows its head in deep respect to the bright memory of Mykola Hryhorovych. His memory will live on in the hearts of his students and colleagues, in the results of his scientific research, and in the daily university tradition to which he devoted his entire life.

V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University expresses its sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Mykola Hryhorovych Kokodii.
