Renowned Mathematician, Professor Artem Yantsevych Has Passed Away: Karazin Community Expresses Condolences
It is with deep sorrow that we announce that on March 25, 2026, the life of an outstanding mathematician, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Artem Artemovych Yantsevych, who devoted his entire life to Karazin University, has come to an end.
A talented graduate of the world-renowned mathematical school of our University, he was a prominent representative of the “golden” generation of scholars who shaped an era.
Artem Artemovych was born on August 9, 1939, in Kharkiv. In 1961, he graduated from the School of Mechanics and Mathematics of Kharkiv State University (now the School of Mathematics and Computer Science of Karazin University). In 1967, he defended his Candidate’s thesis titled “Some Problems of the Theory of the Optical Method for Studying Hydrodynamic Stability,” and in 1994, he defended his Doctoral dissertation titled “Evolutionary Concepts of Hilbert Stochastic Functions and Non-Stationary Stochastic Processes.”
For nearly 60 years, he worked at Karazin University, most of that time at his home School of Mechanics and Mathematics. Since 1993, he served as a Professor at the Department of Mathematical Modelling and Software Engineering, and from 2007 to 2012, he headed the Department of Higher Mathematics and Informatics.
From 2012, Artem Artemovych worked at the School of Economics, where he headed the Department of Mathematical Methods in Economics and later became a Professor at the Department of Economic Cybernetics and Applied Economics. There, he taught higher mathematics, probability theory, actuarial mathematics, and game theory.
He made a significant contribution to the correlation theory of stochastic processes, which enabled the modelling of wide classes of random environments. A considerable part of his research was devoted to the problems of wave propagation in statistically non-stationary and inhomogeneous media, as well as to the filtering of random processes. He authored more than 80 scientific publications.
Artem Artemovych was a talented, kind, and cheerful person. He educated many generations of students. Wherever he worked, he earned sincere affection and deep respect from all those who had the privilege of working with him.
He was a symbol and a legend of the School of Mechanics and Mathematics and a beloved professor of the School of Economics. This is how he will remain in the memory of all who knew him.
We express our deepest condolences to his family, relatives, colleagues, former students, and disciples. May his memory be eternal.
