Prominent Scientist and Public Figure of the Kharkiv Region Volodymyr Babaiev Passes Away: Karazin University Expresses Condolences

The community of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University expresses its sincere condolences to the staff of O. M. Beketov National University of Urban Economy in Kharkiv, as well as to the colleagues, family, and loved ones of Volodymyr Babaiev, who passed away on 14 March 2026.

Volodymyr Babaiev served as the Chairman of the Academic Council of O. M. Beketov National University of Urban Economy in Kharkiv, Doctor of Science in Public Administration, Professor, Academician, and Honorary Citizen of the City of Kharkiv. Since 2021, he had also chaired the Council of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions (III–IV accreditation levels) of the Kharkiv region.

Therefore, this loss is deeply felt not only by his home university but also by every higher education institution in Kharkiv and by the entire academic community of the city, which knew him as an outstanding scholar, an experienced leader, and a sincere and open-minded person.

The professional path of Volodymyr Babaiev was a true example of tireless work, dedication to science, and civic responsibility. As an Academician and First Vice-President of the Engineering Academy of Ukraine, he made a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian engineering thought. His scientific achievements, practical initiatives, and innovative ideas have served — and will continue to serve — as a guide for many future generations of researchers and engineers.

He established a strong scientific school and educated hundreds of professionals who today достойно represent Kharkiv and Ukraine at various levels. The contributions of Volodymyr Babaiev were duly recognized by the state, reflecting not only his personal achievements but also the great mission to which he devoted his life: the development of his native city and the advancement of education and science in Ukraine.

We share the sorrow of this profound loss with his family, colleagues, and everyone who knew Volodymyr Babaiev.
