Professor Viktor Krasnobaiev Has Passed Away: The Karazin University Community Expresses Its Deepest Condolences

4 february 2026 year

The Ukrainian academic community has suffered an irreparable loss. On February 2, the outstanding scholar, specialist in automated control systems and computer engineering, Doctor of Technical Sciences, and Professor Viktor Anatoliiovych Krasnobaiev passed away. He was a person of crystal integrity, unwavering moral principles, and profound scientific wisdom.

Viktor Anatoliiovych was born on February 5, 1951, in Kharkiv — a city to which he devoted his entire life. In 1973, he graduated from the Kharkiv Higher Military School, where he also began his academic and teaching career. His distinguished scientific path was marked by the defense of his doctoral dissertation in 1990 and the award of the academic title of Professor in 1991.

From 1997, Professor Krasnobaiev worked at the Petro Vasylenko Kharkiv National Technical University of Agriculture, where he held the position of Professor at the Department of Processing and Storage of Agricultural Products, and from 2000 — at the Department of Automation and Computer-Integrated Technologies. Later, he continued his fruitful activity at V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, where he was not merely a lecturer of fundamental disciplines, but a true mentor and moral guide for colleagues and students alike. The final place of his service to science was the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic,” where he headed the Department of Computer Engineering.

The scientific achievements of Professor Krasnobaiev had a significant impact on the development of computer engineering theory in Ukraine. He developed theoretical foundations for the synthesis of structures of ultra-high-speed real-time information-processing processors and created methods to ensure the reliability of computing systems. His works on modular arithmetic and automated control systems became the foundation for many subsequent studies.

Yet his significance cannot be measured by scientific achievements alone. Viktor Anatoliiovych was a person of rare spiritual stature —absolutely whole, stable, and principled. He possessed an intuitive sense of truth in all its dimensions, whether in scientific research, the educational process, interaction with students, or professional debate. He was truly a titan of spirit.

At V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, he taught a wide range of fundamental disciplines, but his role extended far beyond the classroom. Professor Krasnobaiev was a true educator and a moral example, first and foremost for his colleagues.

Professor Krasnobaiev devoted his all-too-short life to the noble calling of science, honor, and dignity. And although not all battles were won, he passed away remaining, to the very end, a Human Being in the highest sense of the word — just three days before his 75th birthday.

The bright memory of Viktor Anatoliiovych Krasnobaiev will forever remain in the hearts of his colleagues, students, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing this remarkable person.
