Karazin University has received laboratories for electrical engineering, automated electric drives, and industrial process automation under an agreement between the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the FESTO subsidiary.

From April 14 to 18, staff of the Education and Research Institute "Ukrainian Engineering and Pedagogics Academy" underwent training on the newly acquired FESTO equipment.

In total, 20 lecturers and staff members from the Departments of Automation, Metrology and Energy-Efficient Technologies; Electrical Engineering and Power Engineering; and Mechanical Engineering, Transport, and Welding received training on how to integrate this advanced equipment by the leading German manufacturer of industrial automation solutions, FESTO, into the educational process.

The training was opened by Yevhen Ryzhenko, Head of the Didactics Department at the FESTO Kyiv Office. The sessions were conducted by Professor Mykola Yakymchuk, a representative of the company.

The training took place at the newly established interdepartmental laboratory of modern industrial automation technologies.

The five-day program consisted of several modules tailored to the lab-based instruction of technical disciplines across the institute’s departments.

The training covered:

  • Logical elements of digital circuit design,

  • Electric drive control schemes, frequency-controlled drives, automated electric drives, servo drives,

  • Electric motors,

  • Automated pneumatic drives,

  • Basics of mechatronics using MecLab training equipment, MPS D packaging station, and MPS workpiece sorting station.

Lecturers and engineers gained a fundamental understanding of the operation and potential applications of the new lab equipment. Much productive work lies ahead in mastering and further developing the technical infrastructure of the departments. Moreover, instructors will have the opportunity to continue their advanced training for free in Kyiv in the coming months.

According to the agreement between the Ministry of Education and Science and the FESTO subsidiary — financed by the World Bank —the university received state-of-the-art laboratories featuring:

  • Element kits: "Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering/Electronics";

  • Kits: "Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering in Metalworking";

  • Kits: "Network Systems and Electrical Safety Measures";

  • Kits: "Basics of Digital Technology";

  • Kits: "Fundamentals of Contact Schematics";

  • Training module with frequency converter "Sinamics G120 EduTrainer®";

  • Kits: "Drive Technology: Servo Motor";

  • Packaging station: "Complex Mechanical Manipulation Processes";

  • Workpiece sorting station;

  • Educational equipment kit "Introduction to Mechatronics" with extensions;

  • Mobile training stand;

  • Kits: "Study of Pneumatics";

  • Kits: "Study of Electropneumatic Automation";

  • Real-time simulation software for electrical engineering circuits.

FESTO provided qualified training for university personnel on the proper use and maintenance of the equipment. The course included both theoretical and hands-on sessions.

University students will be able to work directly with the FESTO equipment in a secure facility, ensuring practical learning in a safe environment.
