Education

The values of Karazin University unite a powerful cohort of like-minded individuals around the university, who, through joint efforts, are capable of transforming Ukraine's education system in response to current challenges.

A meeting was held between university representatives, educational institutions of Kharkiv and the region, and the educational community of Ukraine with Liliya Hrynevych, the initiator and leader of the introduction of external independent evaluation, university autonomy, and the "New Ukrainian School" reform, and the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine (2016–2019).

The event began with a welcome speech by Oleksandr Elkin, founder of the EdCamp Ukraine movement for responsible teaching, national chair of Global Dignity in Ukraine, curator-founder of the Global Shapers hub in Kharkiv, member of the Advisory Board on promoting the development of the general secondary education system under the President of Ukraine, and member of the Supervisory Board of Karazin University.

The participants were also greeted by the university's Rector, Tetyana Kaganovska, who emphasized that teachers perform a responsible mission — preserving and shaping our youth, fostering the resilience and steadfastness of the new generation. Thus, as a socially responsible university, Karazin is involved in preparing new modern teachers and is opening a Teaching Academy.

During her speech, Ms. Hrynevych focused the audience's attention on the impact of the war on Ukraine's education system, changes in the emotional and intellectual state of children that lead to learning gaps, and approaches to overcoming these educational losses. She emphasized the moral purpose of education, outlined the essence of the NUS reform, and identified key transformational competencies, including:

  • Creating new values;
  • Overcoming tensions and dilemmas;
  • Accepting responsibility.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of views and a fruitful discussion on issues related to transformational processes in the education system in the current context.

Ms. Hrynevych stressed that a classical university is a leader in transformational changes, and thus, Karazin is a powerful hub for uniting intellectual environments to overcome the challenges of war in the region and the country, and for designing strategic changes through the education sector. Education not only reflects our reality but also has the ability to project the future, so we continue to direct our efforts towards this together!
