Olha Vovk Delivered a Lecture on the Contribution of Karazin University Scholars to the Development of World Science

On August 20, 2025, Olha Vovk, Deputy Director of the P. T. Tronko Center for Ukrainian Studies and Local History, at the invitation of the Department of Scientific and Information Support of Innovation Processes of the V. H. Korolenko Kharkiv State Scientific Library, delivered a lecture titled “Ten Discoveries of Kharkiv Researchers That Changed the Perception of the World.”
The speaker focused on the work of scholars whose biographies were closely connected with Kharkiv University. Among them were mathematician Oleksii Pogorelov and physicist Lev Landau, physiologist Illia Mechnikov and biologist Lev Tsenkovskyi, historian Mykola Kostomarov and philologist Oleksandr Potebnia, as well as other outstanding figures.
Their innovative ideas contributed to the understanding of the physical world on Earth and in space, the study of living nature, and the comprehension of the patterns of development of society in both the past and the present.
Olha Vovk emphasized that the discoveries made by Karazin University scholars not only enriched the treasury of scientific knowledge with new facts but also transformed humanity’s perception of the world, influencing human thought and the development of society.
The lecture was part of the educational cycle “Outstanding Events and Figures in the History of Science and Technology,” dedicated to Kharkiv City Day.
