New Meanings of War, Peace, and Geopolitics Within the Walls of Karazin University: A Meeting with British-Canadian Political Scientist Taras Kuzio

2 may 2025 year

In Kharkiv, against the ongoing full-scale war, Karazin University hosted an open and honest discussion with Taras Kuzio, a British-Canadian political scientist of Ukrainian descent. The event, attended by students, faculty, the university administration led by Rector Tetyana Kaganovska, and university alumnus Serhii Fedchenko, featured analytical insights and sharp assessments of the current geopolitical landscape.

Kuzio provided a characterization of the positions of the United States and the European Union in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war, highlighted aspects of American political culture, and discussed the impact of Donald Trump on international support for Ukraine.

Special attention was given to the concept of the “roots of the war” and potential scenarios for its conclusion.

“Why won’t Russia and Ukraine sign a peace agreement? Because there is no pressure on Russia. But there is always pressure on Ukraine,” Taras Kuzio emphasized.

Following the official part of the event, participants had the opportunity to ask questions, discuss geopolitical forecasts, and even debate with Taras Kuzio, one of the most renowned experts on Ukrainian affairs in Western political science discourse.

We are sincerely grateful to Mr. Kuzio for his visit, which was more than just a lecture — it was a dynamic intellectual dialogue that helped Karazin’s students and academic community gain a deeper understanding of the complex processes of modern geopolitics and Ukraine’s role in the global context.
