On September 7–12, 2025, the 15th International Conference “Nanomaterials: Applications & Properties” was held in Bratislava (Slovakia), bringing together over 400 leading researchers from around the world. The event served as a large-scale scientific platform for discussing current trends and future perspectives in nanomaterials science.

During the conference, participants were welcomed by Martin Vengart, President of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, who expressed his support for Ukrainian researchers and Ukraine as a whole.

Plenary sessions featured keynote lectures by prominent scholars in the field of nanoscience, including Sara A. Majetich (Carnegie Mellon University, USA), Vladimir Tsukruk (Georgia Institute of Technology, USA), Saw Wai Hla (Ohio University, USA; Argonne National Laboratory), Yury Gogotsi (Drexel University, USA), and Babak Anasori (Purdue University, USA).

Karazin University was represented at the conference by Senior Researcher and Associate Professor of the Department of Materials Science at the Education and Research Institute “School of Physics and Technology” Olga Maksakova, who presented the results of her research team achieved within the framework of the international project EURIZON in cooperation with the Slovak University of Technology (ID#3052 “Creation of ceramic coatings for surface modification of structural materials by the cathode-type vacuum-arc discharge, which generates highly ionized plasma flows”, Grant Agreement 871072), as well as the state-funded project of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine “Creation of functional coatings for tools intended for processing special alloys in the restoration of aviation and heavy military equipment” (Grant Agreement No. 0124U001127).

The presented results sparked lively discussions and interest among colleagues from the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin for Materials and Energy (Germany), Tohoku University (Japan), Brno University of Technology (Czech Republic), the University of New South Wales (Australia), and other leading scientific centers worldwide, opening prospects for new international collaborations.

Karazin University takes pride in the high scientific potential of its staff and sincerely thanks the team of the Education and Research Institute “School of Physics and Technology” for representing both the University and Ukrainian science with dignity on the international stage.

The achievements of our researchers are a source of particular pride for the university community and a testament to the significant role of Karazin University in the global scientific arena.
