Karazin University Researchers Participate in a Scientific Seminar Organized by the Max Planck Society’s Institute for Microstructure Physics in Halle

2 december 2025 year

On 20–21 November 2025, researchers of Karazin University took an active part in a scientific seminar organized by the Max Planck Institute for Microstructure Physics (MPI-MSP) in Halle (Saale), Germany.

The event was dedicated to the 63rd anniversary of the Educational and Research Institute “School of Physics and Technology.”

The seminar was held within the activities of the German-Ukrainian Centre of Excellence “Plasma-Spin-Energy,” jointly established by V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, the National Science Center “Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology,” and the Max Planck Institute for Microstructure Physics with the support of the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space.

The centre is headed by Professor Oleksii Chechkin.

Scientific Contributions and Key Research Directions

The presentations by Ukrainian researchers covered modern areas of spintronics, magnetic materials physics, and advanced plasma technologies.

The seminar also showcased early results of two STCU partner projects implemented at Karazin University within the “Plasma-Spin-Energy” Centre of Excellence:

  • “New plasma sources for controlled deposition of high-quality spintronic layers”
(Principal Investigator: Serhii Bohatyrenko, Educational and Research Institute “School of Physics and Technology”)

  • “Control and diagnostic equipment for advanced plasma deposition of complex spintronic structures”
(Principal Investigator: Maksym Khruslov, Education and Research Institute of Computer Sciences and Artificial Intelligence)

Participants and International Collaboration

The event brought together leading scientists from Germany, Ukraine, and other countries.

Karazin University was represented by: Professors Ihor Hirka and Valeriia Trusova, Associate Professors Serhii Bohatyrenko and Maksym Khruslov,
and PhD student Renata Kozhukhovska.

Researchers from the National Science Center “Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology” also participated, including Serhii Fomin, Anton Hlushchenko, and Tetiana Tkachova, as well as Valerii Slipko, graduate of the School of Physics and Technology and Professor at the University of Opole (Poland).

The Max Planck Institute for Microstructure Physics was represented by Karazin University alumni Oleksii Biletskyi, Oleksandr Holovash, Kyrylo Dronov, Kostiantyn Polozhii, Nataliia Serhieieva, Andrii Stiervoiedov, and Yana Shashel, who served as the seminar organizers.

Strengthening International Scientific Partnerships

The seminar served as an important platform for strengthening scientific cooperation between Ukrainian and German research institutions, exchanging results, and planning future joint projects.
