On March 14, 2025, the second lecture titled "Anthropocentrism and Planetary Boundaries: An Interdisciplinary Perspective" was held at the Department of Socio-Economic Geography and Regional Studies named after Kostyantyn Nyemets, School of Geology, Geography, Recreation, and Travel Business. The lecture was delivered by guest professor Dr. Josep Vila Subirós, Ph.D. in Geography and professor at the Department of Geography at the University of Girona (Spain), as part of a series of lectures within the elective course "Paradigms of Sociogeosystems" (outside the curriculum).

The lecture was attended by nearly 40 students, postgraduate students, and faculty members from the department and school.

In his lecture, Professor Josep Vila Subirós described the levels of anthropocentrism, addressed issues of war and peace, competition for natural resources, and analyzed global defense expenditures, population growth forecasts, industrial development, resource volumes, and food production.

He introduced the audience to the concept of planetary boundaries, the crossing of which poses risks to global environmental stability. Additionally, he provided an overview of publications and books addressing the relationship between society and nature.

The lecture sparked considerable interest and led to a lively discussion among attendees.

The next session within this elective course, titled "From Conservation to Restoration of Biodiversity, Natural and Cultural Heritage: A New Perspective. New Paradigms", will take place on March 28, 2025, at 9:00 AM.

All interested parties are welcome to attend. Further details about the meeting will be announced separately.
