International Day of Medical Physics
On November 7, we celebrate the International Day of Medical Physics.
This date was chosen for a reason — it coincides with the birthday of the great Marie Skłodowska-Curie (November 7, 1867), whose pioneering research on radioactivity laid the foundation for the entire field of medical physics and nuclear medicine.
Who is a Medical Physicist?
A medical physicist is a professional who applies the principles and technologies of physics to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases. They ensure the accuracy of radiation therapy, the safety of complex medical equipment, and the effectiveness of diagnostic procedures.
Training the Future of Medicine
High-quality training of specialists in Ukraine is carried out at the Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Nanotechnologies of the Education and Research Institute “Physico-Technical Faculty” at V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.
Educational opportunities:
-
Bachelor’s degree: Educational program “Medical Physics and Nanomaterials”
-
Master’s degree: Educational and professional program “Medical Physics”
Science and International Cooperation
The department is implementing important projects, including a state-funded program on “Development of Nuclear Physics Methods for the Treatment and Diagnosis of Oncological Diseases” and an international project in collaboration with the University Medical Center Groningen (Netherlands).
Students regularly undertake internships at leading medical institutions in Ukraine.
The Future of the Field
Ukraine is actively investing in the development of nuclear medicine! By 2027, two state-of-the-art nuclear medicine centers are expected to open in the country. This ensures that the demand for highly qualified medical physicists will continue to grow rapidly!
We sincerely congratulate all medical physicists on their professional holiday!
Thank you for your invaluable contribution to preserving the health and lives of our nation.
