International Day for Biological Diversity

22 may 2025 year

On May 22, the global community observes the International Day for Biological Diversity — a day that serves as a reminder of the urgent need to preserve the richness of living nature, which sustains the functioning of the entire planet. This year’s UN theme — “Be Part of the Plan” — emphasizes the necessity of achieving harmony with nature and sustainable development, highlighting the importance of balancing human needs with environmental conservation to promote progress that does not harm the planet’s health.

V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, renowned for its strong scientific school in the fields of biology and ecology, is actively involved in researching and protecting Ukraine’s biodiversity — particularly that of the Slobozhanshchyna region, known for its unique ecosystems. Our scientists, in cooperation with both international and national partners, conduct monitoring of rare species populations, study the effects of climate change, and promote ecological education.

Karazin University continues to contribute to environmental sustainability and the preservation of natural heritage — as part of its global responsibility and Ukraine’s commitment to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
