Lecture “Product Counterfeiting: Types and Methods of Counterfeiting in European Countries” within the Erasmus+ EDETMS Project "European Concept of Dynamic Regulation and Coordination of Examination of Goods in Customs Affairs"

On May 7, 2025, a lecture on the topic "Product Counterfeiting: Types and Methods of Counterfeiting in European Countries" was held as part of the course “European Experience in Goods Examination in Customs Affairs” within the framework of the ERASMUS-JMO-2023-HEI-TCH-RSCH project “European Concept of Dynamic Regulation and Coordination of Examination of Goods in Customs Affairs” (EDETMS).
The event took place at the Department of Marketing and Trade Entrepreneurship of the Education and Research Institute “Ukrainian Engineering and Pedagogics Academy” of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, with the participation of representatives of the Kharkiv Customs Office.
Guests were welcomed by Associate Professor Serhii Petrov, Deputy Director of the Institute, and Professor Viktoriia Chobitok, Acting Head of the Department of Marketing and Trade Entrepreneurship.
Kateryna Hunko, Head of the Personnel Department and Customs Service Adviser of the First Rank, provided an overview of product counterfeiting, its types, and methods used in European countries. She also addressed the protection of intellectual property rights, explained the procedure for suspending customs clearance based on the customs register, and outlined the interaction process between customs authorities, rights holders, and declarants. Special attention was given to the recent amendments to the Customs Code of Ukraine, which suspend the registration of intellectual property objects related to individuals or legal entities during martial law.
Ruslan Moroz, Acting First Deputy Head of Kharkiv Customs and Customs Service Adviser of the First Rank, introduced students to the key areas of customs authorities’ work in combating smuggling and customs violations. Drawing on his extensive practical experience, he described methods of detecting smuggled goods and concealment techniques used for their transportation. His lecture was enriched with photographs illustrating high-profile smuggling cases discovered in the Kharkiv Customs area.
